Double Cheesecake Trouble

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake- Taken by Maria

Cheesecake galore does not just happen at Kettle Drums Restaurant, it also happens across the street at Gerti’s. Gerti’s is owned by a Albania guy that my dad knows. First, there family started out with a breakfast place which we went to many times growing up, then one of the sons started a restaurant and it is one of the best restaurants in town. Not only do they have amazing dishes but they also make homemade cheesecakes. My dad, sister and I are cheesecake fans so we alternate between the two cheesecakes at Kettle Drums and Gerti’s.

Gerti’s cheesecake is unlike the Kettle Drums so it’s nice to switch it up. Gerti’s is a heavier cheesecake. Usually there’s a unique flavour and then some cool topping. One of my sister and dads favourite flavours was this Butter Tart Cheesecake. It was slightly lighter than the other ones but still pretty heavy and had a nice buttery but creamy flavour. Then on top was a sort of whipped layer that made the heavy part feel less heavy.

Recently we went to Gerti’s and had a Dalmatian Cheesecake, thats what they called it. It was white chocolate and milk chocolate and it was rich. Not one of my favourites. The bottom part was a very rich white chocolate mixed with the cheese and the top layer was a hard milk chocolate fudge sort of layer. It was really rich because of the white chocolate and then the fudge on top just added to it. It was still good though because I love sweets and cheesecake.

One of the best ones I’ve had though is the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake. I love cookie dough, the bottom of the cheesecake was a chocolate cheesecake and then within that was chunks of cookie dough, then on top was a cool whipped sort of layer which was perfect because the chocolate chip cookie dough with the chocolate cheesecake was rich. i think it might of been better if the cheesecake part was just plain cheesecake but maybe not, the chocolate was pretty good. Nevertheless it was delicious.

Overall, I can’t say I have a favourite between the light and the heavy cheesecakes. The light has a difference taste from the heavy so it’s hard to choose which one I like the most. I’ll just have to keep alternating between the two restaurants and trying many more cheesecakes.
